Captain Annabel by Neal Evan Parker

Intrigued by an unusual planter in her yard, four-year-old Annabel climbs in, pulls out the weeds and yells, "Boat!"

The girl's discovery inspires her father to fix it up with her, and teach Annabel how to sail. Thus begins Annabel's life-long love of the sea.

Annabel grows up and leaves home and works her way up the ranks on various seafaring vessels, eventually becoming the captain of her own tugboat.

Finally Annabel returns home to her beloved papa, reconciling her love of the sea with her love of home and family.

A sweet and tender story, with beautiful illustrations of the sea by Emily Harris.
