We think this might just be the most huggable doll you have ever held! Our exquisitely handmade and perennial bestselling Heavy Baby™ Weighted Waldorf Doll will be a lasting member of your family for generations of cuddles. This Heavy Baby comes in a velvety soft lilac bunting and has a dark skin tone.
This authentic Heavy Baby™ natural fiber doll is created by our skilled doll maker exclusively for Bella Luna Toys. She uses the original design and pattern created by Trish Mooney. Each doll is entirely made by hand and the result is a beautifully crafted, heirloom quality doll that is completely individual and has slightly varying dimensions.
These dolls are known as "millet dolls," or "sensory babies" and were first created in 1919 in Germany. Waldorf Dolls have several distinctive features including very simply embroidered faces to allow for children's imaginations to set the emotion of their baby. This feature encourages open-ended play and creative expression.
Filled with wool stuffing and lavender-scented millet, this doll promotes nervous system regulation and a sense of calm and focus when held or placed in a lap. The longer a child holds the baby, the warmer the doll becomes, allowing for an even richer sensory experience. The weight is similar to the feeling of holding an actual baby and encourages empathy and nurturing. Heavy Baby provides extra sensory attention for children who benefit from the experience of "lugging."
Some other features of our Heavy Baby Dolls:
- Bunting-style dolls, their bodies are sack-like and do not have legs.
- The body of this huggable doll is made from unbleached cotton muslin and organic skin tone knit.
- They are filled with wool and organic millet scented with lavender.
- The outer bunting is made from ultra-soft cotton velour and is removable for washing.
