Hand-Painted Wooden Knitting Needles
This pair of Knitting Needles (Size #8) is perfect for a child's first knitting project, and wooden needles are so much warmer than cold, metal ones. Each pair of these beautiful hand-painted wooden needles is a work of art in itself!
The needles are made from maple balls milled in the USA here in Maine, and birch dowels milled in Lithuania. They are assembled and painted by artisans in Russia.
The beads of each pair of needles are painted with a floral design, each set is unique. Let us choose for you.
These all-wood needles are excellent for knitting with either two- or four-ply yarn.
In Waldorf education, all children–both boys and girls–are taught to knit with two needles beginning in first grade. Research in recent years has identified the strong connection between the hand and the brain.
Developing fine motor skills through knitting and handwork helps develop a child's neural pathways and enhances learning and brain development.
A fascinating read on the subject is The Hand: How Its Use Shapes the Brain, Language, and Human Culture, written by neurologist Frank Wilson, M.D.
