Play Silks

Visit any Waldorf kindergarten classroom and you will undoubtedly see a basket of brightly colored play silks among the toys. Adults who are unfamiliar may wonder what they are for, but children know just what to do!

During daily free play in my class, the play silks became capes, fairy skirts, veils, belts for a pirate or knight, dog leashes, baby blankets, and so much more. If you were to provide  just one "Waldorf toy" for a child, a basket of play silks would be my highest recommendation.
