Easter marks the coming of a new season when nature is in its most abundant form. It's why we love using traditional, organic egg dyes when it's time to decorate eggs for an unforgettable hunt!
In this tutorial we are using our Natural Easter Egg Dye Kit from eco-kids, but many of these techniques can be done using vegetables and plants from your own home.
Step 1:
Fill 3 glasses of water with 1/2 cup of warm water. You don't need to boil water with this tutorial which makes it safe for younger children to join in. Pour one container of color into each glass and mix thoroughly.
Step 2:
If you want to make designs on your eggs, you can use the Beeswax crayon included in this kit or any crayon you have at home. Draw your designs before dipping into the dye.
Step 3:
Use the color chart included in the kit to decide how you'd like to dye your hard-boiled eggs. If you don't have this kit, making dyes in orange, blue and purple will allow you to create an assortment of other hues, including yellow, green and brown!
Step 4:
And now the fun part! Experiment with leaving eggs in the dye for shorter or longer periods to see how the colors change. Once you're happy with the color you have, take out and let dry in an egg carton or somewhere that you don't mind getting a bit stained.
Step 5:
Show off your works of art by displaying on a plate or in a basket like our Swing Bolga Basket. Enjoy scattering these around the yard on Easter morning or simply enjoy unpeeling and eating!
