Welcome Fall With a Felt Acorn Pouch

Welcome Fall With a Felt Acorn Pouch

There are so many treasures to find during your outdoor fall adventures. Make this sweet felt acorn pouch, by Brittany from My Mothering Journey, to hold your children's discoveries while out on a walk or playing outside.

Gather Your Materials

Create A Felt Acorn Pouch

Choose your wool felt. You will want a brown hue for the acorn but you can use any color for your pouch. Using 100% wool felt is preferable because natural wool is high quality and environmentally friendly.

Draw your pouch pocket on tracing paper or any type of paper. This pouch is approximately 2.25 x 3 inches but yours can be any size.

Cut your pattern out and pin to the felt sheet, using it as a guide to cut out two pieces of felt which will be the front and back of your pouch.

Cut out an acorn shape from the brown felt sheet and place it on the front pouch pocket piece. Take matching brown embroidering thread and a needle and sew the acorn into place going around the entire edge of the acorn.

If you have embroidery skills, feel free to embellish it. You can also use wool roving to create your own designs or shapes, like the picture above.

Use the wool yarn to create a finger knit strap for the acorn pouch. Adjust the strap length based on the desired length of your craft. Watch this Sunday with Sarah video for a simple finger knitting demonstration.

To finish your project use a blanket stitch to sew the front and back of the pouch together. Attach the knit strap onto each side of the pouch, sewing it into the felt pieces.
