After hosting an embossed tin ornament party during the holiday season, we fell in love with this simple way of creating beautiful seasonal decorations. The process was engaging, the results were lovely, and it felt like just the right balance of creativity and calm. In fact, we loved the process so much, that we wanted to create something sweet for a Valentine's Day craft. This garland is easy enough for school-aged children to enjoy, with heartwarming results they’ll be proud to hang every year.

Emboss Tin Designs
Cut out the designs you plan to create, leaving a margin around to allow you to tape it down. You can use the printable heart template or draw your own design!

Cut a piece of tin to the appropriate size and tape your design onto it. Using a felt sheet under your work to protect your table, use a ballpoint pen to trace the design with medium presure. You should feel the tin give under your pen. To check on your design flip your project over for a peek. Don't remove your template until you're 100% finished!
Once you've finished tracing and embellishing your design, you can peel the paper off and use scissors to cut the excess tin from your shape. Using your hole punch or a thin pokey stick like a metal skewer, poke 2 holes in the heart to lace a ribbon or string through.

Repeat this process until you have enough hearts to create a garland of your desired length. Use string, yarn, or ribbon to lace through the holes you created, spacing them out by 5-6 inches.

Embossed Tin Homemade Valentine's Day Cards
If you enjoyed this project, you can take it one step further by creating beautiful Valentine's Day cards using the same method.
Cut watercolor paper into the size card you'd like to create and use masking tape on each side to ensure clean edges. Use watercolors to create a beautiful background. We sprinkled some kosher salt onto ours before they dried to create a nice effect.

Let the watercolor dry fully before removing the tape. Next, add a tin ornament and use the embossing method to create your own designs, or print something you like to use as a guide. Add a string if you'd like it to hang. Secure to the front of your card with a piece of tape or sticky tack, and give them to all your friends and family this Valentine's Day!
