Maileg Butterfly Garden Car Garage

Maileg Butterfly Garden Car Garage

Who says that a garage needs to be a simple building just for storing cars and lawnmowers? Not the Maileg mice! Few things are cuter than a tiny mouse in a tiny car zooming around, except for this Butterfly Car Garage to store their treasured vehicle in. This sweet project will keep little car lovers busy and add some homemade flair to any play set up. As the monarch butterflies set off for their annual migration, your little butterflies can zoom around and make a magical garage for their Maileg car.

Gather Your Supplies:

These are the tools we used to create our Butterfly Garden Maileg Car Garage:

  • A shoebox or small box
  • Paint
  • Permanent marker or pencil
  • Glue gun or Tacky glue
  • Felt
  • A pair of scissors
  • An exact-o knife or hobby knife for cutting out garage doors
  • Optional: embroidery thread and needle

A collection of materials for the craft lay on a light blue background.

Create your Maileg Car Garage:

Step 1:

Once you have found a shoebox that will comfortably fit your Maileg mouse and their car, pick out a paint color for the box. Paint the box and let dry. Outline the garage door with a permanent pen and decide if you would like to paint the garage door a contrasting color. Let the shoe box dry before continuing with step 2.

Step 2:

Outline the garage door with a pencil or pen and decide if you would like to paint the garage door a contrasting color. Let the shoe box dry before continuing with step 3.

Step 3:

Using scissors or an exact-o knife (grown-ups only) cut out your garage doors.

    Step 4:

Cut out your fun shapes from your felt! We opted for mushrooms, butterflies, and daisies here.

There are cut out felt pieces laying on a light colored background.

    Optional Step:

For an added flourish and an extension for older children, the felt pieces can be embroidered before attaching them to the garage.

    Step 5:

Embellish your garage adhering the shapes with the glue gun or tacky glue.

    Step 6:

Using permanent markers, paint, or paint pens of your choice, add more embellishments to make your mouse garage truly one of a kind.

    Step 7:

Voila, your mouse garage is ready for play!
