ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Vincent van Gogh is one of the most famous painters in the world. Born in The Netherlands, he lived primarily in France during the late 1800's.
Starry Night ("Night Etoilee") was painted while he was a patient at the Saint-Rémy Hospital in Provence, after an episode of madness. His goal was to paint directly what he saw, and it was painted in the middle of the night. The complementary colors used (yellow and purple, orange and blue), lend luminosity to the painting.
