Upcycle your Bella Luna Box

The holiday season comes with lovely gifts, the sweetness of time with family and... a lot of shipping boxes. We love sending you our little treasures in the mail, but if you are like us, you may have a few too many boxes that you don't want to just throw out. Crafting these cards is the perfect way to create something useful, beautiful and finally make use of your cardboard boxes!

Gather Your Supplies:

These are the tools we used to create the Upcycled Bella Luna Cards:

  • Cardboard Box
  • Scissors
  • Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Embroidery Needle
  • Embroidery Thread
  • Heavy Paper

Create your Upcycled Bella Luna Card:

Step 1: Cut your cardboard box

Begin by cutting up your extra cardboard boxes into rectangles, we recommend rounding out the corners.

Step 2: Paint your cardboard

Paint your pieces with your color of choice. We used white paint and a stiff-bristled brush to create a slightly weathered look. Let dry.

Step 3: Pin holes in your cardboard pieces

Once dry, use an embroidery needle to poke holes along the edge of the cardboard, going all the way through. Try to keep the holes evenly spaced.

Step 5: Cut your paper

Cut and fold your paper to create the card base. The front should be close to the size of the cardboard, but leave a little extra around the edges to cut off at the end.

Step 6: Sew your cardboard pieces to your paper

Begin sewing the cardboard piece to the front of the card. The thicker the paper, the less likely it will rip.

Step 6: Trim the edges of the paper

Once sewed all the way around, cut off the excess paper, except for the side where the paper folds.

Step 6: Paint your design

Add your own painted pattern to the front of the card.
