This high-quality covered Wooden Sandbox is carefully crafted in Austria from water-treated wood, making it safe for children and pets.

Its solid spruce frame is bottomless to allow for deeper sand and drainage. Kids will enjoy the seats that are formed by the four colorful corner joints.

This Covered Wooden Sandbox offers protection from sun and rain and can be cranked all the way down when not in use. This keeps debris from collecting in the sandbox and protects it from roaming cats and other animals.

Not as sturdy as I hoped

"Unfortunately this sandbox is not as sturdy or durable as I had hoped. One of the support posts for the roof started to split during assembly, and a small piece of one of the side boards broke off while my husband was putting it together. Because of the friction of the wood on wood and the crank rail being a little flimsy, we are unable to raise and lower the roof using the crank system. Instead it takes one person on each side to manually raise or lower the roof before pinning it into place. And because of the weight limit on the side rails (and knowing how easily the wood splits) I can’t sit on the edge of the sandbox with my toddler while she plays. Still, I like the look of it and the design is nice in theory."

"My niece looked around a while before selecting this sandbox for her two children. We purchased it for their birthdays and they love playing in it. Poor quality, cannot recommend

"I was so excited about this sandbox for my son’s second birthday, but I wish I had read more reviews before I bought this item. My husband put it together, and almost every piece of wood was already split upon arrival or it split or splintered while he put it together. The assembly is difficult, the tarp is flimsy, and this item is not worth even half of what it cost. Disappointed, as I’m used to such high quality products from Bella Luna. I will not likely be purchasing a larger item from them again, as it would be nearly impossible to return and I’m not wanting to potentially waste my money again. I know my boys will use and enjoy it while it lasts, but next time I’ll just be purchasing a plastic one."

Bought to be eco friendly and because it had so many good reviews

"We are unfortunately dissapointed. I bought this because it was eco/greenfriendly AND it had great reviews, plus I wasn't supporting a big chain store (where they are half the price and less positive reviews etc). I honestly wish I just bought a plastic turtle sandbox. 1) It was really hard to put together. The instructions were only pictures and it seems the ones ours came with were for a slightly different model. 2) The sandbox has been up for a couple of weeks and it rained a few times. There is already mildew where the rain comes through the tarp on the section around the poles. 3) The cover is nice, but at the right/wrong time of day doesn't keep out sun and it's not possible to move it. 4) The cover is hard to get up and down and a parent needs to assit young kids. Plus feels flimsy. BUT, it is a good size."

Where did you/do you purchase sand for kids? Is there a recommended brand? As a Bella Luna customer I’m interested in purchasing sand that will not be harmful to my children’s health.: Hi Jeanne, Garden centers, hardware stores, and online retailers carry sand specifically formulated for sandboxes. There many brands and formulas, but you should be able to find a play-sand product that meets your family's requirements for safety and fun!
Can you show a photo of the bottom of the sand box? What do you recommend we put the sand on top of? Tarp?: The sandbox does not have a bottom and can be placed on any surface - ideally lawn. You may want to lay landscape cloth (or tarp) if you choose to place it on a grassy surface to prevent weeds and grass growing through the sand.
Does this come with sand ? And can I buy sand from you if not?: Sand is sold separately. Play sand is readily available at any quality hardware store or garden center. Sandbox holds 200-400 lbs of sand; approx. 11-12 cubic feet.
Does the sandbox have a bottom to it? I'm wondering if I could use it on the patio to our apartment. Thanks!: This sandbox does not have a bottom and sits directly on a surface
